Laura Jo McCord, a lifelong resident of Alexander City, Alabama, and a beacon of joy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on June 22, 1965, to the late Robert Joseph and Myra Jane McCord, Laura's zest for life and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
A proud graduate of Benjamin Russell High School's Class of 1983, Laura carried the spirit of the Wildcats throughout her life. Her love for her alma mater was only matched by her dedication to The Pride of Alexander City Marching Band, where she once played with fervor and enthusiasm. Laura's passion for music extended beyond her high school years as she became a talented piano player known for her ability to uplift the spirits of those around her. She found joy in sharing her musical gifts, playing and singing at local churches and nursing homes, bringing comfort and happiness to many.
For over two decades, Laura served the community through her work at Chapman Healthcare, where she was not only a valued employee but also a friend to all. Her caring nature made her an exceptional caregiver, particularly to her mother, whom she looked after with unparalleled devotion.
Laura's interests were diverse and a reflection of her vibrant personality. An avid Alabama fan, she reveled in the thrill of the game and the camaraderie of fellow supporters. Her creative talents shone through in her crocheting, as each blanket she crafted was a testament to her love, time, and effort. Friends and family will remember her for the happiness she spread and her amazing memory, always recalling everyone's name and birthday with ease.
Her love for simple pleasures, like working search word puzzles, watching bowling, and riding the golf cart at the golf course, showcased Laura's appreciation for life's moments. Laura's legacy is one of love, faith, and selflessness-a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Laura is survived by her brother, Robert Shane McCord; her uncle and aunt, Danny and Carol Champion; her uncle, Zack McCord; and numerous loving cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Joseph and Myra Jane McCord, and her grandparents, Leonard and Lucille Champion, and Wheeler and Arbie McCord.
Laura's life was a testament to her loving, faith-filled, and selfless nature. She navigated life's challenges with grace and always put others before herself. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide those she has left behind.
