Kitty Lyn Kitchens Petkovich passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on November 18, 1954 in Alexander City, Alabama to Robert Benjamin Kitchens and Sarah Ruth Adams Kitchens. Kitty attended Benjamin Russell High School where she was a Majorette and graduated Class of 1973. She lived in Alexander City until her Marriage to Karl Jeff Petkovich on September 29th, 1984 at the Alexander City Methodist Church, on 11th Ave N, Alexander City, Al. Within a year they moved to Montgomery, AL where they built a home together including one of her favorite things, a swimming pool. She loved the water. She was living on Lake Martin when they met. They shared many adventures together including learning to scuba dive. Jeff used to send her roses for their anniversary every year including a red rose for every year of marriage and a white rose for the up coming year. In the last few years, while living in Montgomery, she became an active member of The Highlands Church- Montgomery Campus where she would volunteer to serve food and seat members.
Kitty worked at Russell Athletics for 20 years in Quality Control. After that, her husband encouraged her to go quit Russell and go to college again to continue to learn and find a job she enjoyed. She received both an Associates Degree for Paralegal and a Bachelors degree in Legal Studies at South University in Montgomery. She graduated with Honors. She did serve as a Paralegal at multiple Attorneys' Offices in Montgomery and also as a Notary Public before her retirement.
Kitty had a happy-go-lucky personality and could always be found smiling and laughing. Her bubbly personality could spark joy in the darkest of rooms. In her free time, you could find her planting flowers in her garden, swimming in the pool, or soaking up the sun. Kitty had a heart for animals and would often donate to ASPCA as well as adopt animals from the local shelter. She loved Gone With the Wind, which was evident by her extensive collection of figurines and other movie-themed items. During Christmas, The North Pole had nothing on Kitty when it came to decorating for the holiday. She made sure to place all of her ceramic village scenes, ornaments, and lights all throughout the home. Her infectious laugh and warming smile will always be remembered by those who knew her.
Kitty is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Karl Jeff Petkovich; brother, Benny Joe (Betty) Kitchens; nephews, Richard (Amber) Bradford, Rob (Paige) Bradford, Gary Kitchens; nieces, Donna Kitchens, Katie Kitchens; and many loving cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Sister, Brenda Joy Bradford; and parents, Robert and Sarah Ruth Kitchens.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Kitty Kitchens Petkovich.
