Kenneth Martin Melton, known affectionately to those close to him as Kenneth, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on May 26, 1941, in the nurturing community of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, Kenneth's life was a tapestry of devotion to his family, a testament to his skills and a reflection of his generous spirit.
Kenneth's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Melton. He was a proud father to his sons, Kenneth Olney ‘Kenny” (Samantha) Melton and John Bartlett “Bart” Crowe; former daughter-in-law, Lea Anna Meadows. Kenneth's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, sharing his wisdom and laughter with his grandchildren, Kenneth “O.J.” Melton, Jr., Lauren Ruth (Jason) Bryan, Courtney Crowe (Tyler) Flournoy, Dustin Ray (Stephanie) Hammonds. His great-grandchildren, Analeigh Grace Melton, Carly Cheyenne Melton, Cayden Lee Flournoy, Nicolas Taylor Flournoy, Kaylee Marie Flournoy, Hailey Danielle Hammonds and Asher Ray Hammonds, were the light of his later years.
Kenneth's siblings were integral to his life's story. Eyvonne (Louis) Dunham, Ralph (Sheila) Melton, and Jimmie (Teresa) Melton not only shared in the joys and sorrows of life but also in the countless memories that knit a family together. His nieces and nephews, too numerous to name, but each beloved, will carry forward the kindness and wisdom he imparted. Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Olney Anderson Melton; sister, Dean Jackson (Sonny); brothers, Donald Melton (Lottie), Ronnie Melton, and his sister, Nellie Tyler (David), as well as his parents, Paul Jerome Melton and Ada Ruth Bentley Melton. Each of them held a place in his heart and now a part of his enduring legacy.
Kenneth's working life was marked by commitment and versatility. He spent his early years contributing his skills to Russell Mills before retiring from Uniroyal. His dedication to safeguarding others shone through in his role as a security guard with Russell Corporation. Beyond his formal employment, Kenneth was a talented self-employed handyman, whose ability to build or fix anything was widely known and respected.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Kenneth was a man of many interests. He found peace and solitude in fishing and hunting, hobbies that not only brought him closer to nature but also provided cherished moments with family and friends. His creative spirit found expression in drawing and painting, hobbies that captured the beauty he saw in the world around him. A lover of travel, Kenneth seized every opportunity to explore new places, absorbing the beauty and culture of each new location. Music was a constant companion in his life, providing a soundtrack to the many chapters of his journey.
Above all, Kenneth was a family man, his happiest moments spent in the company of his beloved kin. His kind and faith-filled nature made him a beacon of generosity and support within his community. Those who knew Kenneth understood that his presence was a gift-a source of laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support.
