It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Katherine Ann Bassett Brown shares the news of her passing.
Kathy, as she was affectionately known by most, passed away at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, AL on March 4, 2024, after a very short illness. The sudden loss of a loved one is difficult to understand, but Kathy lived a life of Faith, to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For many years, she led as an example to her family and friends of the Light Jesus called his people to be. She was a servant to her church, community, and volunteer organizations. She was always busy serving others.
Kathy was born August 11th, 1943, in Wadley, Alabama to James Lee and Frances Baker Bassett. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Ronnie Brown; her daughter, Robin Bussie and husband Bobby; Ronald Brown and bonus daughter Karen. Affectionately known as Gummy to her grandchildren and great grands she will also be missed by Kaylee Bence and Dusten with their children T.J. and Nayvie; Jayson Brown and wife Natalie, their son David; Jasper Lee McQuaid and mother Hanna, as well as her brother Jimmy Bassett, nephew James Bassett, niece Janice Hanna, special niece Donna Greene, as well as extended cousins and friends.
Kathy served her church and community without ceasing. A member of Hackneyville Baptist Church for many decades, she served as treasurer and secretary as well as taught Sunday School for many years. She was secretary for the Community Center, served as a poll worker, treasurer for DAR, member of the Tallapoosa County Historical Society, and a member of many prayer, women groups and bible studies.
Her friends have said to the family, "Kathy always took care of it, who will do it now?" A close friends stated that "She was a mother to us all." The void Kathy leaves behind can only be filled with memories and love that Kathy gave to everyone who knew her. All our lives are better because she was there for each of us.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Hackneyville Baptist Church.
