Mrs. Joyce Elizabeth Jacob Tintjer's Obituary
Mrs. Joyce Elizabeth Jacob Tintjer, a resident of the Eclectic community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the age of 86. (86 years 9 months, and 12 days) Born on May 24, 1939, in Baxter, lowa, Joyce was the daughter of John Jacob and Renetta Marie Fricke Jacob.
She graduated from Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Iowa after which she attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa until she married in 1958. While caring for her young family, on a small farm near Zearing, Iowa, she kept busy-sewing clothes, keeping a large garden, cooking and preserving food, and tending to chickens and cows. She also worked several farm-related jobs-including selling seed corn to farmers, walking soybeans and detasseling corn.
In keeping with this entrepreneurial spirit, after settling near Eclectic, Alabama, Joyce founded a local business, Carpet Care by Joyce. And she was handy at carpentry work and helped to build her own home.
She loved writing and was published in several magazines, including Ladies Home Journal, Grit magazine, Reader’s Digest, and several other publications. She also loved reading. She loved playing board and card games with her family. Some of her favorites were Scrabble, Yahtzee, Grand Master Mind, and Pinochle.
She enjoyed knitting and made many beautiful afghans for family and friends. She also knitted baby clothes for her grandchildren and knitted several mermaid tails for her granddaughter and her great granddaughter and her granddaughter’s friends.
She enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, traveled around the US, and went on a cruise. She frequently visited long distance with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Tintjer, Mark Tintjer (Loralyn), Becky Freeman (Douglas), and Carol Grimsley (Eric) and ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her father, John Jacob, her mother, Renetta Marie Jacob, and her husband, Wallace Gene Tintjer, and her siblings Carl Jacob (wife, Irene), Ernest Jacob (wife, Darlene), Marie Dreifke (husband, Carl), Doris Schnur (husband, Earl), and Betty Benson (husband, Ronald).
There will be no services at this time.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Joyce Elizabeth Jacob Tintjer.
