Johnnie Jessie Speaks' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Johnnie Jessie Speaks, 79, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Randy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Jessie passed away on December 18, 2023, in Canton, GA at the home of his son having reached the age of 79. Born on July 10, 1944, in Tallapoosa County, Jessie lived a life of cotton mill work surrounded by the love of family and friends. Jessie was a well-known character in the Avondale mill village, and the Alexander City area.
Jessie proudly served his country for 8 years as an Airborne veteran of the Army National Guard of Alabama. He was a medic, served as a peacekeeper during the Selma march, and reached the rank of E6.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his son, Jaye Speaks of Canton, GA, and his cherished grandchildren, Carter Marlin Speaks a United States Marine, Nathaniel Tate Speaks, and Lauren Elizabeth Speaks as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Jessie was preceded in death by his parents Tate & Mary Speaks, his brother, Captain Mac Wayne Speaks, who gave his life for our country in Vietnam, and his sister, Betty Jean Webster.
Jessie's smile and caring presence will live in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be treasured forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
