Funeral Service for Mr. John Boyce Steverson, 81, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Hillabee Baptist Church. Rev. Jimmy Sprayberry and Rev. Larry Cummings will officiate. Burial will follow in the Garden of Love. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hillabee Baptist Church.
John Boyce Steverson, a faithful Christian, generous servant, and beloved member of his family and community, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at his residence.
Mr. Steverson was born on March 17, 1945, in Alexander City, Alabama, to Clyde Franklin Steverson and Sara Addie Thornton Steverson. He lived a life marked by devotion to God, love for his family, and quiet service to others. A longtime and active member of Hillabee Baptist Church, he was known for his steadfast faith and for the many ways he supported the Christian community throughout his life.
He was a man who believed in hard work and took pride in doing his part well. Mr. Steverson was employed by Russell Corporation as a sewing machine mechanic and instructor, where his skill, patience, and knowledge were valued by those who worked alongside him. He also served as caretaker of Bice Cemetery for several years, a role he carried out with care and respect. In addition, he was a faithful blood donor for the Red Cross, reflecting his selfless nature and his willingness to help others in meaningful ways.
Mr. Steverson’s life was also enriched by the many interests he enjoyed. He loved coon hunting and was an avid equestrian who found great joy in horses. He spent time training horses and appreciated the discipline, patience, and companionship that came with that work. Within his church, he served faithfully and gave of himself in numerous ways, including leading as head of the Brotherhood committee for several years. His commitment to his church family and his Christian walk were evident to all who knew him.
Those who knew Mr. Steverson will remember him as faith-filled, generous, and selfless. He lived with a quiet strength and a humble spirit, always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or serve where needed. His life was a testimony to the values he held dear, and his example left a lasting impression on family, friends, and church members alike.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene S. Steverson; his son, Jeff (Patricia) Oliver; his grandchildren, Jamie (James) Ennis, Austin (Allison) Oliver, Brittany Oliver (Mitch) Sutton, and Caleb (Kaitlyn) Oliver; and his great-grandchildren, Raylyn Oliver, Naomi Oliver, Ada Sutton, Anna Sutton, Ellis Sutton, Brad Oliver, and Kolt Oliver. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Sandra) Steverson, and his sister, Sara Allie (Royce) Steverson McGowan.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Kathy Pate and Cynthia Oliver. Their memory remained close to his heart, and he carried their love with him throughout his life.
John Boyce Steverson will be remembered for his devotion to his faith, his love for his family, and his lifelong service to others. His legacy is one of kindness, commitment, and Christian witness. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the impact of his life will continue to be felt by all who were blessed to know him.
