I can’t express my fondness and memories of my cousin. He was my supporter in my good and bad times. When I began Law School, John started saying: “Too many lawyers.’ Then he stopped and said: We need good lawyers, Douglas. Be one. We shall not see his like again.
I Didn’t know Him Well, Got To Meet Him A Couple Of Times, Always A True Gentleman. He Was Related To My Grandmother Somehow And I Even Have A Framed Commemoration, Which Governor Patterson Made My Grandfather An Officer In The Alabama Militia. pretty Cool Guy

Deepest sympathy extended to Gov. John Patterson family. My father was a good friend , Rev Edd Mahan and spoke quite often about Goldville, Alabama and the Governor and the gold rush and other things they shared in common. May God bless the entire Family.
Governor Patterson was Board Chairman of Lyman Ward Military Academy during my service from 1999-2003 as the Academy's President. He was a "one of a kind" leader and did great things for LWMA. Truly a gentleman in every sense of the word, and always available for counsel. In discussing his service during WWII in North Africa as an Artillery Forward Observer he reflected on the guidance from his father as he was about to put on the uniform of an Army officer to "hold fast, never leave your station and don't ever do anything to tarnish the family name." He told me those words held fast in his mind during his combat time in North Africa. Truly a great man and honored to know and work for him.

My granddad Cleve Dunaway, lifelong resident of New Site, Alabama, spoke often of you, Governor Patterson. He was so proud to be your cousin.
Governor Patterson was such a joy to know and a great public servant. His lifelong friendship with the East family was truly a treasure with many memories to cherish. He was a walking history lesson and truly loved Tallapoosa County.
