John William Lightsinger, a cherished family patriarch, master electrician, and proud veteran, passed
away surrounded by the love of his family. His life was a testament to the values of hard work,
devotion to family, and service to country. John was a man who lived selflessly, lovingly, and with a
spirited zest that inspired all who knew him.
John was a beacon of light in his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Louise
Durham Autrey, step-father, George Robert Autrey, his beloved wife, Peggy Jean Lightsinger, his
sister, Doris Ann Lightsinger, and brother, Billy Lightsinger. His legacy of love and strength lives on
through his daughters, Sally (Lee) Richter of LaGrange, GA, and Susan (Breck) Selman of Houston,
TX. His grandchildren, Luke (Tiffany) Hurst, Lofton (Elizabeth) Beasley, John Lee (Kelsea) Richter,
John (Sylvia Stoker) Selman, and Hannah Selman, who will carry forward his spirit. His joy was
multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Analee Hurst, Brenan Hurst, Reese Beasley,
and Jack Beasley, who brought immense happiness to his later years.
John's dedication to his craft as a master electrician was paralleled only by his commitment to his
country. He served with honor and courage as a Sergeant in the United States Army's 11th Airborne
Division. His service to his nation was a source of great pride and shaped much of his character-
disciplined, reliable, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
His interests were as vast as the great outdoors he so deeply loved. A true outdoorsman, John
found peace and contentment in hunting and fishing. His passion for showing horses was more than
a hobby. Above all, the time spent with his family was what he cherished most, creating memories
while enjoying time at Lake Martin, Alabama Football and attending grandchildren’s sports.
John William Lightsinger's life was a portrait of a man who gave generously, worked tirelessly and
lived fully. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue
to guide and inspire. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the memories and
the indelible mark he has left on our lives. John's story does not end here; it is carried forward in the
lives of those he loved and who loved him in return. His was a life well-lived, and he will be
profoundly missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and caregivers at LaGrange
Heritage Assisted Living and also his caregivers, Kim Lewis and Leigh Phillips, for their
compassionate care and support during his journey with ALS.
