Mr. John Farmer Dean's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. John Farmer Dean Sr., 90, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Faith Temple. Pastor Dick Stark will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Faith Temple.
Mr. Dean passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Chapman Healthcare Center. He was born on November 21, 1933 in Alexander City, Alabama to Thomas Denson Dean and Flora Farmer Dean. He was an active member of Faith Temple.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Hyde Dean to whom he was married for more than 67 years, three sons John F. Dean, Jr (Edie), D. Michael Dean (Rhonda) and Christopher T. Dean (Kim), eight grandchildren, Ana Peyton (Andrew), Alex Alvarez, Sarah Beth Drury (Wallace), Olivia Harnach (Tyler), Denson Dean (Jamie), Miriam Dean (Derek), Payton Moran (Joshua), Emma Dean; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Ellis, Kennedy Drury, Rowen Drury, Laurel Moran, Coryn Dean, Arthur harnach, August Moran, Molly Drury and Becca Dean; sister, Sarah Nell Pless and numerour nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Denson and Flora Dean; his brother Thomas and sister Frances and his granddaughter Betty Laurel Dean.
“John Farmer” was a devoted Christian, husband, father, son, brother and patriot. The majority of his working life was spent in virtually every part of the printing industry serving as a pressman and supervisor, but he was happiest in his work when running a printing press.
Brother John loved the Lord and served Him faithfully as a member of the Faith Temple Church Board, Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and usher and missionary to Brazil.
Sergeant Major Dean was a member of the Alabama Army National Guard for more than 22 years, enlisting shortly after his eighteenth birthday. He was a charter member of Detachment C, 20th Special Forces Group where he achieved his Master Parachutist qualification. He was inducted into the 20th Special Forces Association as a Life Member. Ever an avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, canoeing, fishing and hunting with his family and friends.
