Funeral Service for Mr. John Herman Blackwell, 79, of Fortson, Georgia, and formerly of Rockford, Alabama will be Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Rockford, Alabama with Bro. John Patterson officiating.
Mr. Blackwell passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at his residence. He was born on November 21, 1943 in Wetumpka, Alabama to George Herman Blackwell and Lydia Grace Waites Blackwell. He graduated from Rockford High School, attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business. He was a salesman for R.J. Reynolds Company for many years and retried from there. He was also in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Blackwell was a Methodist by faith. He loved to be outside in the yard and giving love to his 2 dachshund dogs (Apollo and Lola) and his cats. He enjoyed going deep sea fishing, working on old cars, restoring old beetle bugs and building dune buggies.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Blackwell Orr (James); sons, John Gary Blackwell (DeAnna), and Christopher M. Blackwell; grandchildren, Bailey Orr, Cameron Blackwell, Jonathon Blackwell, Jordan Blackwell, Dallas Blackwell, Brianna Nicholson, Hayden Nicholson and Zachery Cotton; great-grandchildren, Addie, Vera, and Izzy; sister, Charlotte Blackwell Patterson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Enix Blackwell; sister, Bettie Blackwell Austin; and son, Joshua Nicholson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
