Mrs. Jewell Ray "Queenie" Bossom's Obituary
A celebration of life for Mrs. Jewell Ray "Queenie" Bossom, 84, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Joe Lody will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prattville Memorial Gardens at 3:30 pm. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church. \r\n\r\nMrs. Bossom passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her residence. She was born on October 9, 1925 in Goodwater, Alabama to Arthur Lee Ray and Bessie Lu Hood Ray. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. She worked as a Statistical Clerk for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and after retirement was a homemaker. She loved to grow flowers and had a green thumb. Mrs. Bossom was a sweet and gentle person and was everyone’s “Memaw”. Family time was the most important to her. \r\n\r\nShe is survived by her husband of thirty five years, John L. Bossom, Jr. of Alexander City; daughter, Kathleen B. Thompson of Memphis, TN; sons, Thomas Ray Sargent (Glenda), of Tuskegee, Ronald L. Sargent (Angela D.) of Prattville, John L. Bossom, III (Debbie) of Pensacola, FL, James W. Bossom (Rhonda) of San Antonio, TX and Robert A. Bossom of Mascoutah, IL; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and brother, Billy H. Ray (Sharon) of Notasulga.\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
