Mr. Jerry L. Britton, known to many simply as Jerry, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Russell Medical in Alexander City, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family devotion, and a life well lived. Born on April 27, 1945, in Alpine, Alabama, to T.H. Britton and Christine Magouyrk Britton, he walked through life with the kind of spirit that inspired others to keep going, keep believing, and keep showing up with courage and gratitude.
Jerry lived his life as a Christian man whose faith was not merely spoken, but demonstrated through the way he loved, served, and encouraged those around him. He was an active member of New Beginning Baptist Church, where his presence reflected the strength of his convictions and the warmth of his heart. He understood that a meaningful life is built one faithful step at a time, and he carried that truth with him in all he did. Those who knew him will remember a man who was adventurous in spirit, wise in counsel, and generous in the way he gave of himself to others.
He was a man who knew how to enjoy the simple and joyful moments of life. Jerry loved karaoke and dirt track racing, and he found delight in the energy, excitement, and fellowship those interests brought him. He also cherished time spent with his family and his beloved dog, Mork. These were not just hobbies or pastimes to Jerry. They were expressions of a life that embraced joy, connection, and the blessing of being surrounded by the people and companions he loved most.
Jerry’s greatest pride was found in his family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Britton, who shared in his journey and stood beside him through the seasons of life. He also leaves behind his son, Dwayne Britton and his wife, Tina, of Alexander City, Alabama. His legacy continues through his grandsons, Jeremy Britton and his wife, Sarah, and Jason Britton, as well as his great-grandchildren, Braiten Britton and Brooks Britton. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Sellers and Steve Waters, and his brother, Walter Britton. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward the memory of his kindness, humor, and steady presence.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, T.H. Britton and Christine Magouyrk Britton, and his passing now reunites him in eternity with those who went before him. While his absence will be deeply felt, his life stands as a powerful reminder that a person’s influence does not end when their earthly journey is complete. The lessons he lived, the love he shared, and the example he set will continue to speak for him.
There are some lives that quietly pass through the world, and there are others that leave a mark that cannot be erased. Jerry Britton’s life was one that made an impact. He showed that strength does not always roar, that wisdom often speaks softly, and that generosity is one of the greatest gifts a person can offer. He lived with intention. He loved with sincerity. He faced life with a spirit that encouraged others to do the same.
As we remember Jerry, we celebrate a man who understood that life is not measured only by years, but by the love given, the faith maintained, and the memories created along the way. His journey was one of devotion, joy, and perseverance. His story reminds us to live boldly, love deeply, and honor every day as the gift it is. Though he has departed this earthly life, the light of his character remains, shining in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
