Mrs. Janet Scott's Obituary
Graveside Service for Mrs. Janet Scott, 94, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Hillview Memorial Park. Pastor Brett Self will officiate.
Mrs. Scott passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on March 2, 1928 in Hackneyville, Alabama to Herchel Baker and Thelma Campbell Baker. She was the middle child of six siblings: Hoyt, Junior, Rick, Gene, Mack, and Cynthia. She attended Hackneyville School where she was an excellent student and played on the basketball team. Upon graduation, she attended Birmingham School of Business and was the first in her family to seek higher education.
After completion of her training there, she married James Robert Scott of Alexander City and had two children, Randy and Rita. The family attended 6th Street Baptist Church and were involved in many activities and leadership roles.
Her love of basketball and sports was evident as she worked at the Alexander City Rec Center for many years. She also served as the Sixth Street Church's secretary and worked at Hillabee Towers.
Seeds of salvation have been scattered and planted throughout this country by James and Janet as they organized or participated in 49 mission trips. They also combined their love of travel to provide aid to others in Red Cross disaster relief trips up and down the eastern seaboard.
Janet was a prolific reader and connoisseur of nature. She could find beauty in the common tree or flower and especially in the sky and clouds. As a lifelong learner, she especially studied the Bible in small groups in order to effectively spread God's salvation plan to others.
Anniversaries, birthdays, and other important life events were acknowledged with a hand-written and often times hand-crafted card by Janet to her family and friends. As much as she enjoyed reading, she enjoyed writing and often expressed herself in poetry and journaling.
Throughout her life Janet had many titles - daughter, sister, Candy doll, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, Alex City's First Lady, and friend. However, the role she faithfully portrayed daily was a servant of Christ. Her heart was pure, full of goodness, grace, and mercy. She lived her days seasoned with optimism, wisdom, grace, humility, kindness, empathy, and love. She fought the fight, she finished the race, and she kept the faith.
Well done, good and faithful servant! May you find eternal rest with your Heavenly Father as well as all the saints who have gone before you.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Romine (Randy) of Alexander City; daughter-in-law, Anne Scott of Alexander City; grandchildren, Jill Romine, Kristen Barnett (B.J.) both of Alexander City, Jason Romine (Kelly) of Atlanta, GA, and Angie Scott of Alexander City; great-grandchildren, Allie Scott, Davis Barnett, Dawson Barnett, Brooklyn Romine, Riley Romine, and Rex Romine; brother, Mack Baker (Nell) of Defuniak Springs, FL; and sister, Cynthia Nelson (Billy) of Waxahachie, TX
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James R. Scott; son, Randy Scott; and grandson, Jonathan Scott.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Stone Ridge Baptist Church 611 Airport Dr. Alexander City, AL 35010.
Many thanks to all the employees of Chapman's Nursing Home for the love and excellent care given for the last seven years.
