Mr. James Michael Taunton's Obituary
James Michael Taunton, known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on August 16, 1956, in Tallassee, Alabama, Mike's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his loved ones, a passion for the great outdoors, and a talent for all things mechanical.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Cindy Lou Taunton, who was his rock and constant companion. His legacy continues through his son, James Brandon Taunton, and his step-son, Galen Richardson, who will carry on his spirit of kindness and generosity. His sister, Melissa (Andy) Weldon, along with a host of cousins and many friends, will forever cherish the memories they shared. Mike also leaves behind his beloved fur baby, Coo that he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Taunton; mother, Shirley Chandler Taunton; brother, Brett Taunton; and his son, David Michael Taunton.
For 38 years, Mike was a dedicated employee at Russell Medical, where he worked in maintenance. His colleagues knew him as a man who could be relied upon to solve any problem, a trait that extended far beyond his professional life. Mike's ability to fix anything that was broken earned him the affectionate nickname of "Big Man" among his friends and family.
Mike's interests were as varied as his skills. His love for playing the guitar was only matched by the joy he found in riding his motorcycle through the winding roads of Alabama. An avid outdoorsman, Mike cherished the times he spent hunting and fishing, embracing the tranquility of nature. His family and friends will fondly remember the warmth and laughter that filled the room whenever he made his famous pancakes.
Those who knew Mike were touched by his selfless nature. He was always the first to offer help to anyone in need, never seeking recognition or praise. His actions were driven by a genuine desire to make the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time.
The family will gather at a later date to honor and celebrate Mike's life, remembering the love he shared and the difference he made. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Mike Taunton; your legacy will never be forgotten.
