Mr. James Sizemore's Obituary
Memorial Service for Mr. James M. Sizemore, Jr., 82, of Alexander City, will be Monday, November 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Cowhick will officiate.
James M. Sizemore, Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Jim, passed away on the 15th of November, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on May 25, 1942, Jim led a life characterized by wisdom, thoughtfulness, and a gentle demeanor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jim's early years were spent under the guidance of his loving parents, James M. Sizemore, Sr., and Margaret Davidson, who instilled in him the values of integrity and compassion. It was with a heavy heart that Jim bid farewell to his stepdaughter Charlotte Smith, his father James Sr., and his mother Margaret, all of whom preceded him in death.
A devoted family man, Jim is survived by his cherished wife, Brenda Smith Sizemore of Alexander City, Alabama. Together, they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. His legacy is continued through his daughter, Rebecca (Doug) Sandberg of Roswell, Georgia, and his stepson, John "Alexander" Smith, V., of Alexander City, Alabama. Jim's joy was multiplied with the birth of his grandchildren, Arielle Lee Sandberg, John Alexander Smith, VI., and Sara Elizabeth Smith, who will carry forward the kindness and grace he exemplified. His sister, Ruth House, will fondly remember the bond they shared throughout their lives.
A man of intellect and passion, Jim's professional life was dedicated to the practice of law. He was known for his sharp mind and ability to navigate the complexities of the legal system with ease. His colleagues respected him for his fair-mindedness and his clients trusted him for his unwavering commitment to justice.
Jim's interests extended beyond his professional life. He was a man of diverse passions, each pursued with the same level of dedication he applied to his career. His love for knowledge was evident in the books that filled his shelves and the discussions he sparked at every gathering.
Those who knew Jim will remember him as a pillar of wisdom in their lives. His thoughtful advice and gentle guidance were gifts he freely gave, and his presence was a source of calm in any storm. Jim's conversations were always filled with insight and his quiet strength was a comfort to those around him.
The Sizemore family will hold a memorial ceremony to honor Jim's life and his enduring impact on those he loved. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Jim's story is one of love, dedication, and grace-a story that will continue to inspire even as he rests in peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, the Parkinson's Association of Alabama, or your church or charity.
Jim graduated from Samford University with a B.A., 1963; University of Virginia, J.P., 1966; University of Alabama, L.L.M., 1981.
Mr. Sizemore was a member of: Alabama State Bar, Virginia State Bar, American Bar Association, Talladega County Bar Association, and Montgomery County Bar Association.
Mr. Sizemore served as: Chairman, 3rd Congressional District Alabama Republican Party; Executive Committee, Alabama Republican Party; Commissioner, Alabama Revenue Department; Director, Alabama Development Office; President, National Association of Tax Administrators; President, Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators.
Mr. Sizemore was also a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Birmingham, the Sons of the American Revolution and The Social Register of New York.
