Mr. James Edgar Sanford's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. James Edgar Sanford, 96, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Ray Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Ray Baptist Church.
Mr. Sanford passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Russell Medical Center. James was born on October 13, 1929 in Tallapoosa County to Clayton Edward Sanford and Rena Skipper Sanford. He was a faithful member of Ray Baptist Church. James worked for over 40 years at Russell, retiring as the supervisor for the Number 3 mill. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. James enjoyed working on his farm and in his garden. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. One of the things James loved most was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Sanford of Jacksons Gap, Benny (Luanne) Sanford of Wedowee, Dennis Sanford, Tony Sanford both of Alexander City; daughters, Janet (Ken) Whitehead, Debra (Richard) Dunlap, both of Alexander City, Vicki (Lynn) Spraggins of Opelika; fourteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; and brother, David (Deborah) Sanford of Alexander City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Goldie Elizabeth Sanford; grandson, Grayson Sanford; great-grandson, Jackson James Lilly; sisters, Mary Gorom and Doris Odom; brothers, O.K. "Doc" Sanford and Lynn Sanford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ray Baptist Church 2519 Hwy 22 Alexander City, AL 35010.
