Mr. James A. Roy's Obituary
James A. Roy (Jim) 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at home at Lake Martin surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Atlanta, GA on October 15, 1932, to parents Joseph Roy and Rachel Houlton McCue. Services will be conducted by Fr. Rob Iler at St. James Episcopal Church, 347 South Central Ave., Alexander City, AL 35010 on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Interment (family only) will immediately follow the service in the church columbarium. Visitation and reception will follow in Stough Hall at the church.
Jim was a loving, kind, thoughtful, hardworking gentleman who loved his family and was affectionately called Pappy. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Kathy McNulty Roy; children Steve (Traci) Roy, John (Jane) Roy, and Jodie Roy Haynes; grandchildren, Ashley (Joey) Spellerberg, Katherine (Michael) Stanley, Dr. David (Kelly) Roy, Andrew (Laura) Roy, Rachel (Tim) Merten, Anna (Matt) Schenck, Jenni Roy, and Ryan Haynes; fifteen great-grandchildren; his extended family, brothers and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, stepdad James F. McCue and former wife Sally F. Roy.
Jim graduated from Sydney Lanier High School in 1951 and The University of Alabama in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. While in college he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. He joined the United States Marine Corps immediately following high school and was accepted into the Naval flight school in Pensacola. Jim survived an aircraft accident and was honorably discharged. He went on to fly as a private pilot for 41 years until the age of 90. As a disabled veteran he went on to live a very successful life. Jim retired as an executive from AT&T in Birmingham after 34 years of dedicated service. He was a member of many community and civic organizations. Jim enjoyed his golfing buddies, especially the Everyday Group at Willow Point Golf and Country Club where he also served on the board. He and Kathy retired to beautiful Lake Martin where they spent 32 years. Jim was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. He loved all his animals, especially Kitty.
We are thankful for the excellent care he received for years from Dr. Vincent Law and staff, and the East Alabama Medical team of doctors and nurses.
