Mr. James Shirley Rhodes' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. James Shirley Rhodes, 96, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Monday, July 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Vince Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eagle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 4, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Rhodes passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born on March 17, 1926 in Red Hill, Alabama to Charlie Lee Rhodes and Myra Lois Golden Rhodes. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Rhodes was a people person, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed eating at the local mom and pop “greasy spoon restaurants”. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former mechanic and retired as a sales representative with North Alabama Express. Mr. Rhodes always enjoyed a good joke and he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathleen Tidwell Rhodes of Alexander City; daughters, Betty Jean Gillespie and Mollie Speake, both of Alexander City; stepson, John R. Coker of Alexander City; grandchildren, Denita Young (Brian), Jennifer Cooner (Wells), Christie Collins (Brandon), Jeremy Speake, Jarrad Speake (Sherry), Josh Speake (Teresa) and Jamon Speake (Verla); nineteen great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Hope; brothers, Charles Douglas Rhodes and William "Bill" G. Rhodes; and his first wife, Irene Godfrey Rhodes.
