Graveside Service for Mr. James Porter Jones, 80, of Daviston, Alabama, will be Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm. at Bethel South Baptist Church Cemetery in Cragford with Mr. Randy Anderson officiating.
James Porter Jones, affectionately known as Porter, left this world on June 25, 2024, at the age of 80, in Alexander City, Alabama, not far from where his story began in Tallapoosa County on August 16, 1943. His passing leaves a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories for all who knew him.
Porter's life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Jones, his children Kristi (Cameron) Carr, Kaci (Anthony) Tapley, Jamie (Marcel) Jones, and Jace Jones. His spirit lives on through his grandchildren Lindsay (Tim) Jones, Joshua Carr, Jared Carr, Ryan (April) Carr, Tyler Tapley, Rylee Tapley, Mikah Tapley, Eric (Mary Harmon) Britton, and Chaz (McKenzie) Jones, as well as his great-grandchildren Jacob (Tori), Carter, Kenzley, Dayton, Cayden, and Gabe, and the anticipated joy of a great-great-grandson on the way. Porter's sisters Lana Bryson and Elaine (Rick) Preetz, brother Ricky (Dee) Jones, and his extended family will forever remember his guiding presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Worthy Jones and Huldie Jones, and his brothers, Robert Marion "Bearhide" Jones and John Paul Jones.
Throughout his life, Porter was a man of the earth and the outdoors. His work as a pulpwood laborer and roofer was testament to his physical strength and resilience. But it was his connection to the land that truly defined him. Farming and gardening were not just hobbies but a way of life for Porter. He found peace and purpose in the simple joy of tending to his crops and watching them grow. His love for fishing was more than a pastime; it was a reflection of his patience and appreciation for nature's bounty.
Porter's presence was larger than life. He was a social butterfly, with the rare gift of being able to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. His friends and family will remember him sitting under his pecan tree, greeting passersby with a wave and a warm smile. Porter was known for his handy skills, always willing to lend a hand or fix something in need of repair. His spirited nature was infectious, and his thoughtful gestures left a lasting impact on those around him.
Described as a hard worker and a simple man, Porter embodied the virtues of integrity and perseverance. He approached life's challenges with grit and grace, never one to shy away from a day's honest work. His hands, often stained with soil or specked with sawdust, were a testament to his dedication to providing for his family and contributing to his community.
Porter's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the kind of wisdom that can only be gained through a life well-lived. He was a pillar of strength for his family, a friend to many, and a man who left the world a better place simply by being in it. As we bid farewell to James Porter Jones, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide us, just as the pecan tree under which he sat will continue to stand tall and strong.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Porter, you were the heart of our family, the soul of our gatherings, and the keeper of our stories. Your memory will be cherished and kept alive in the tales that will be told and the lessons that you taught us. Rest in peace, dear Porter, until we meet again.
