James Deen Johnston's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. James Deen Johnston, 85, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Randy Anderson and Rev. Ron Estes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Russell Farms Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnston passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his residence. He was born on December 4, 1932 in Talladega, Alabama to William H. Johnston and Mattie Ann Johnston. He was a member of Russell Farm Baptist Church. Mr. Johnston was loved by his family dearly and kept them laughing. He was referred to as a “Jokester” by his daughter’s and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching and attending wrestling matches and was a devout Alabama football fan.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda J. Mason (Audie) of Alexander City, Elizabeth Lyndsley (Bill) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Michael Barrett (Amber), Jenifer Hall (Jonathan), Travis Johnston (Máhrie), Samantha Williams (Juston), Alex Mason, Aaron Lyndsley (Kaitlyn); great-grandchildren, Josh Peppers, John Peppers, Jace Hall, Steven Hall, Chris Hall; sister, Lucille "Sue" Harding (Neil); brother-in-law, Howard Peppers (Elea); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sarah P. Johnston; parents; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Hall; brother, Cecil Johnston and sisters, Ann Shephard and Louise Hall.
The family would like to extend sincere heartfelt thanks to Shelia Love for the excellent care given to their father and the nurses of Alacare Hospice, especially Abby Strickland and Mabel Smith.
