James "Jim" Cole's Obituary
James "Jim" Cole, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on November 24, 1939, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Jim's life was a testament to his love for his family, his passion for the outdoors, and his dedication to his work.
Jim's journey began in the heart of Arkansas but his story found its home in Alexander City, where he spent his most memorable years. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret Elaine Cole, and together they raised a family that became his pride and joy. His daughters, Peggy (Michael) Barnett and Jamie Black, were the light of his life, and he instilled in them the values of love, hard work, and the importance of family.
A doting grandfather, Jim was an integral part of his grandchildren's lives. Travis (Jessica) Barnett, Tristan Barnett, and Lainey Black will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. The joy of his later years was further multiplied by the arrival of his great-grandchild, Emma Barnett, who brought a renewed sense of wonder and happiness into his life.
Jim's family tree was deeply rooted in love and extended to a host of nieces and nephews; and longtime family friend, Devereaux Williams, who will remember him fondly. He was the cornerstone of his family, and though he has now joined his late parents, Virgil and Irene Cole, and his seven siblings in eternal rest, the memories he created will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Professionally, Jim was known for his unwavering work ethic and his skilled hands. He dedicated many years to Russell Lands, where he retired as the supervisor of cabin maintenance. His colleagues respected him for his leadership and his commitment to excellence. The impact of his work will be felt for generations to come, as the cabins he maintained continue to provide joy and shelter to those who visit.
Jim's interests were as vast as the great outdoors he loved so dearly. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found solace in the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the chase. His talent for woodworking was not just a hobby but an art form, through which he crafted countless treasures that his family and friends will forever treasure.
