James Chapman Carlisle's Obituary
Mr. James Chapman Carlisle died peacefully after a brief illness in Birmingham, AL December 3, 2023. He was born in Alexander City, AL, March 5, 1935, to John D. and Lucille Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by his parents John D. and Lucille Carlisle, wife Elaine Cameron Mayfield Carlisle, step-daughter Ellison Mayfield Holley, and step-son in law Randy Holley.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Wilbanks Carlisle, step-daughters Elaine Mayfield Gwaltney (Gene), Danice Wilbanks Carlisle, Sarah Rebecca Carlisle (Nancy Collins), Meredith Carlisle McMillan (George III).
Jim was a lifelong proud resident of Alexander City and Lake Martin. He attended Alexander City schools and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Jim began working at his father's business, Carlisle Clothing, as a young boy and continued the business until his seventies. Among his many interests were Alabama Football, reading, travel, cooking, painting, Lake Martin boat rides, and his dog Sis. Jim was an adventurous traveler and visited many parts of the world. Jim was devoted to his family and friends. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, loyal, and loving gentleman.
The family appreciates the friendship of Cindy Martin and her kind deeds to improve his life in the last few years.
A graveside service will be Friday, December 8, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Hillview Memorial Park. Rev. Chip Vann will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 11:00 am to 11:45 am at Radney Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Children's Harbor, 434 Children's Harbor Drive, Eclectic, AL 36024.
