Mrs. Latham, known lovingly to family and friends as "Maw", passed from this life on May 1, 2026, at her home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, humility, and devoted love. She was born on November 1, 1935, in Alexander City to William Roy McCollough, Sr. and Beulah Ellen Cromer McCollough, and throughout her long life she carried herself with grace, kindness, and a steadfast Christian spirit. Jean lived as a woman of quiet strength, always guided by her faith in the Lord and her deep devotion to those she loved.
Jean was a devoted Christian lady whose life reflected the values she held dear. She was a faithful member of Holy Bible Baptist Church, a church she helped plant alongside her husband, and she remained committed to the work and worship of the church throughout her life. Her faith was not simply something she professed, but something she lived each day through her words, her actions, and the gentle way she treated others. She was humble, always willing to listen and learn, and she carried herself with a spirit of meekness that touched everyone who knew her.
Family was the center of Jean’s heart. She was devoted to her family in every sense of the word, and she found great joy in being surrounded by those she loved. She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and she took great delight in doting on each one of them. Her love was steady and unconditional, and her presence brought comfort, warmth, and encouragement to her family through the years. She was a source of wisdom, patience, and tenderness, and her family will forever cherish the memories of her loving care.
Jean also found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved to tend to her garden, where she spent time nurturing what grew beneath her hands. She enjoyed trips to town and appreciated the small routines that made up her days. She liked to spend time outside shelling peas, and she found satisfaction in the quiet work of her hands. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, gifts that reflected her patience, skill, and appreciation for creating something beautiful and useful. These humble pleasures were a reflection of the peaceful and faithful life she lived.
Those who knew Jean will remember her as a woman of dignity, gentleness, and unwavering faith. She was the kind of person who made others feel heard and valued, and her calm presence was a blessing to many. Her life was a testimony to the power of a Christian walk lived with sincerity and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Jean’s earthly journey has come to an end, but the love she shared and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will remain a treasured part of her family’s story, and her faithful life will be remembered with gratitude and reverence. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her loved ones find comfort in the promise of God’s everlasting care.
She is survived by her children, Debra Jean (Stanley) Dunn of Alexander City, Rebecca Ann Morgan of Cragford, Nelda Faye (Clarence) Lindsey of Sylacauga, Jimmie Gaye Stevens of New Site, Ricky Thomas (Iris) Latham, Sr. of Cragford, Patti Gail (Rick) Crawford of Bluff Springs, and Franklin Dewayne (Renee) Latham of Goldville; daughter-in-law, Donna Latham of Alexander City; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren with four on the way.
