Homer Simmons, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on September 18, 2024, in his hometown of Alexander City, AL. Born on December 9, 1950, to R.V. and Bernice Simmons, Homer was a lifelong resident of Alexander City, where he built a life marked by love, dedication, and service.
Homer is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Teresa F. Simmons; sons Michael C. Simmons, Scott (Brittany) Simmons, and Jody Simmons. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Michael "Pete" Wade Simmons, Lathan Simmons, River Simmons, Ivy Kate Simmons, Eli Spraggins, Kristina Simmons, Grayson Hunter Simmons, as well as a host of other grandchildren who will miss their grandfather's warm presence and playful spirit; and great-grandchild, Oakley Moynihan. Homer was preceded in death by his dear parents, his daughter Angie Simmons, and his son, Jason Homer Simmons.
Homer's professional life was as robust as his family life. He dedicated many years to the Russell Corporation, where he was respected for his skill and work ethic. Later, he served the Alexander City Board of Education with the same commitment, maintaining the facilities at Jim Pearson Elementary School and ensuring a safe environment for the community's children.
Those who knew Homer understood his passion for life and the things he loved. A loving and kind man, Homer had a thoughtful nature that made everyone around him feel valued and heard. He cherished the time spent with his family above all, reveling in the joys of playing with his grandchildren and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
An avid outdoorsman, Homer found solace and excitement in the natural world. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, pursuits that not only provided him with moments of tranquility but also opportunities to bond with family and friends in the great outdoors.
Homer's enthusiasm for Alabama football was unmatched. A diehard fan, he cheered on his team with fervor and was a familiar figure among fellow fans, sharing in both the triumphs and tribulations of his beloved Crimson Tide.
Homer Simmons lived a life that exemplified the best of human qualities: loving, kind, and thoughtful. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit and the memories he created will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Homer, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life full of love, laughter, and the deep satisfaction of a man who made a positive impact on his community and the people within it. Homer's story is one of true dedication to his family, his work, and his passions. It is a story that will be told with pride and affection for generations to come.
Homer Simmons' presence will be deeply missed, but the legacy he leaves behind will forever be a beacon of the love and kindness he so freely gave. His life was a testament to the enduring power of a gentle soul to make the world a better place, one thoughtful act at a time.
