Herbert Simon Claybrook Jr.'s Obituary
Herbert Simon Claybrook Jr., of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 70. He was a native of New Site, Alabama, born on October 17, 1953, to his loving parents, the late Herbert Claybrook and Winnie Lee Claybrook. He was preceded in death by his brother Billy Joe Claybrook.Herbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 43 years, Connie Claybrook; one daughter, Karissa Arabelle Claybrook; one granddaughter, Arabelle Dahl Epherson; two sisters, Winnie Lee Mathis (Jamie) and Carol Ann Kornhoff (Ted); and a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom he loved greatly.Herbert, a Theta Chi Alumni, graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Business and the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Although, he was steadfast in his belief that his sophistication developed while being raised in his hometown. He retired from Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin as an electrical engineer after 30 plus years.Herbert was a dedicated member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Slidell. His lifelong passion for sports was exhibited in his love for baseball card collecting, his ferocious support of the Auburn Tigers, and his dedication to coaching and mentoring Slidell's youth athletes for a decade. Although he was an even bigger fan of watching his granddaughter, Arabelle, play travel softball and recreational basketball. In his spare time, he could often be found in his garden where he raised roses and camellias. He loved to travel and created many lasting memories with his family and friends during their excursions. Herbert enjoyed listening to music; especially Hank Williams, and he was no stranger to the dance floor, always ready to show off his jitter bug skills. Herbert will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.Services will be held at Grace Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, January 15, 2024. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 2 pm followed by a memorial service and repass in the fellowship hall.A second service will be held in his hometown, New Site, AL, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at New Salem Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 3 pm followed by a memorial service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Slidell Rec 7 Basketball league Go Fund me page for Herbert Claybrook.
