Funeral Service for Mr. Henry Wayne Hunter, 82, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Railey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Henry Wayne Hunter, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend, passed away with his loving wife by his side. Born with an innate curiosity and a brilliant mind, Wayne dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his community.
Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Martin Hunter; his loving daughter, Tammy Spaulding and her husband, Ralph; and his adored grandchildren, Hannah, and Hunter Walton. His life was enriched by the deep bonds he shared with his family, who will forever remember him as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. While his passing leaves a void in their hearts, the cherished memories they hold will continue to bring them comfort and strength.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Wayne Hunter, and Edna Hunter; his dear daughter, Yarisa Pate; and his sisters, Judy Arnold, and Dianne Wesson. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and their influence on his life was profound and enduring.
A proud alumnus of Auburn University, Wayne's love for learning led him to receive a bachelor’s degree from his cherished alma mater. His academic journey continued at Montevallo, where he graduated with a master’s degree in education. Wayne's passion for education became the cornerstone of his professional life, as he dedicated himself to nurturing the minds of young people.
Wayne's career in education was marked by his tenure as a high school science teacher at Daviston School. His ability to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in his students was a testament to his skill and dedication as an educator. He later served as principal at Daviston School until its closure and continued his leadership at Hackneyville School, followed by a move to Horseshoe Bend School where he served as assistant principal. Upon his retirement, Wayne left behind a legacy of academic excellence and the profound respect of both colleagues and students alike.
Beyond the classroom, Wayne was an avid collector of Indian artifacts. His knowledge of the Indian tribes was vast, and he became a respected figure to those seeking information on artifacts. His passion for history was not just a hobby, but a way of connecting with the past and preserving it for future generations.
As a fervent Auburn University fan, Wayne could often be found reciting statistics from games, his enthusiasm for his team as infectious as it was impressive. His love for the game was paralleled only by his love for his family and his faith.
Wayne was best described as intelligent, thoughtful, and faith filled. His intelligence shone through in every aspect of his life, from his academic achievements to his strategic thinking on the field. His thoughtfulness was evident in his caring approach to education and his consideration for others. His faith provided a foundation that guided his actions and gave him strength.
Henry Wayne Hunter lived a life that was rich in experience and abundant in love. He touched the lives of many and his influence will be felt for generations to come. As we bid farewell to a man of great character and warmth, we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the memories he has left behind and the positive impact he has made on the world. Wayne will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
