Mrs. Helon Stewart Denney's Obituary
A Graveside Service for Mrs. Helon Stewart Denney, 90, of Alexander City, will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Hackneyville Cemetery. Mr. Randy Anderson will officiate.
Mrs. Helon Stewart Denney passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 18, 1934 in Tallapoosa County, she was the daughter of Mr. Jessie Lee Stewart and Mrs. Addie Lovell Dabbs Stewart. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Missionary Church and led her life with faith and hope.
Helon was a hardworking woman who, although stubborn at times, never gave up on anything she set her mind to. Her independence led her to experiencing many different jobs that included working as a Pink Lady at Clay County Hospital, a hostess at The Coke Ranch, a cook at the Magnolia Manor; and a seamstress for Russell Corporation. No matter the job or task, she never gave anything less than her absolute best.
There is an old quote that says, "There is more power in a mother's hands than in a king's scepter." Helon proved this quote true in many ways because of all the amazing things that were done throughout her life. Her hands enjoyed planting flowers in her garden, and she possessed a magical 'green thumb' that could bring any plant back to life. Helon saw the beauty in not just the vibrant colors of her roses and hydrangeas but also in the work that was required deep within the dirt. Her hands created intricate patterns and designs as she mastered the art of crocheting, knitting, needle point, and sewing. She was able to mold ceramics with patience and precision.
Helon held the hands of a loving husband and embarked on a journey in life filled with laughter, memories, and a beautiful family. She held her faithful furry companion, Prissy, whom she loved so deeply her whole life. Her hands raised many children, including her own, and were the first ones that they'd reach for during sickness, celebration, or just simply to feel her love. Helon was a loving wife, mama, grandmother, sister, and friend to all that knew her. Even though she is unable to hold their hands anymore, she will forever hold their heart.
Helon is survived by her children, Judy (Houston) Martin, Betty Norton, Doug (Peggy Smith) Denney, Martha Anderson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Lee Denney; parents, Jessie & Lovell Stewart; brother, Aubrey Lee Stewart; sister, Meverlyn Smith; and son-in-law, Jerry L. Norton.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Helon Stewart Denney.
