Funeral Service for Mr. Hank "Sonny" Henry, 91, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday, December 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Densmore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Hank "Sonny" Henry, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born into the embrace of Harold John Henry and Emma Kathern Henry, Hank learned the values of hard work and compassion that would define his life. Though we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life of a man who touched so many with his loving and generous spirit.Hank honorably served his country as a Flight Engineer in the United States Air Force for two decades, with a career that spanned the Korean War and Vietnam. Throughout his military service, he was stationed across the globe in nations including Japan, England, Iceland, Greenland, and Hawaii, showcasing his dedication and bravery. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Hank continued to apply his strong work ethic at the Russell Corporation, where he remained for 25 years until his second retirement.Outside of his professional life, Hank was known for his exceptional talent as a woodworker. He skillfully restored numerous pieces of furniture, bringing beauty and new life to each piece. His hands were rarely still, always creating or fixing something with thoughtful precision. Hank's passion for square dancing led him and his beloved wife, Gail Maurine Henry, to dance their way across the country, forming lasting friendships and making memories at every turn. His love for bowling was equally evident, as evidenced by the many trophies he won, a testament to his competitive spirit and skill.Hank's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Gail, and their loving children: son Phillip S Henry (Barbara) of Rockmart, GA; daughter Abby Gail Guy (Clayton); adopted sons Tim Spears (Jerry Lynn) and Ty Spears (Barbara Anne). His joy was multiplied through his grandson, Carlisle Guy (Brannon), and his great-grandchildren, Bryant and Brock Guy. Hank's memory will be forever cherished and kept alive through the stories and lessons he shared with them.Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Emma, his daughter Tammy Henry, his brother Oren F Henry, and sister Audrey M McGrand, Hank leaves behind a family who will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he instilled in them.Hank was the epitome of thoughtfulness; he had a knack for making everyone around him feel valued and loved. His generosity extended beyond his family, touching the lives of friends and even strangers, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Those who knew Hank were blessed to experience his warmth and kindness firsthand.As we say farewell to Hank, we are reminded of a quote by Helen Keller that encapsulates his approach to life: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
