Funeral Service for Mr. Hancle Coy Cheatham, 84, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Stone Ridge Baptist Church. Dr. Brett Self will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Stone Ridge Baptist Church.
Hancle Cheatham, a cherished family man, valued community member, and proud veteran, passed away surrounded by his loved ones. His life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and a good sense of humor. Hancle's journey began in Alexander City, AL, where he was born and raised, and it is there that he also found his final peace.
He is survived by a loving family who will carry his legacy forward; his devoted wife, Gail Freeman Cheatham; his son, Ronnie W. Cheatham, and daughter-in-law Prudence; his daughter, Wendy M. Brockway, and son-in-law Don; his stepdaughters, Melissa Hendrix, Melinda Gray (David), and Marilyn Davis (Scott). Hancle was a proud grandfather to Alec Cheatham (Samantha), Jake Brockway, and Abigail Cheatham, and a step-grandfather to Jennifer Spann, Matthew Davis, Christopher Hall, Jeremy Hall, and Justin Gray. His joy was further multiplied by his great-grandchild, Magnolia Cheatham, and step-great-grandchildren, Madison Davis, Saylor Spann, Maverick Spann, and Hudson Davis. Hancle was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Cheatham; mother, Lovene Cheatham; his brother, Calvin Cheatham; his sister, Hazel Welcher; and his brother, James Cheatham.Hancle's commitment to education led him to earn an associate degree in Heating, Air, and Refrigeration, a field in which he excelled and served with distinction. His professional life was marked by his role as a Maintenance Supervisor for Winn Dixie, where he oversaw operations across the southeast, ensuring that countless families could shop in comfort thanks to his expertise.His service to his country was equally notable, having served as a Helicopter Mechanic in the United States Army. His tenure of two years was characterized by the same dedication and excellence that he brought to every aspect of his life.Family was the cornerstone of Hancle's world. He found great joy in spending time with his loved ones, whether that was in the comfort of home or during family trips to the mountains, a place he held dear. Hancle was also a consummate handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand or fix what was broken, much to the appreciation of his family, friends, and church family.Music filled Hancle's home and heart, particularly gospel and classic country tunes that he adored. His love for music was infectious, as he loved to sing along to country tunes by George Jones, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, and Emmylou Harris.Those who knew Hancle would describe him as selfless, a man who always put the needs of others before his own. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, providing him with strength and comfort in times of need. He had a keen sense of right and wrong and always kept his word. He was a dedicated church member to his Sixth Street Baptist Church family. His sense of humor was a gift that he shared generously, always cracking jokes and enjoying making everyone laugh.Hancle Cheatham's life was one of purpose, love, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to inspire those he loved to live life with the same selflessness, faith, and joy that he embodied. As we say goodbye to Hancle, we take solace in knowing that his spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of his family and friends.
