Mr. Gordon Winard Forbus, a man of great generosity, friendliness, and humor, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2023, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born in Wetumpka, Alabama, on January 23, 1939, Gordon lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his community and family. He was a Godly man who raised his family to love the Lord and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Alexander City,
Funeral Service for Mr. Gordon Winard Forbus, 84, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Alexander City. Dr. Steve King and Bro. Faron Golden will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church Alexander City.
Gordon attended Alexander City Junior College, beginning a lifelong commitment to education and self-improvement. He was a hardworking and dedicated individual who gave over three decades of his life to Russell Corporation and another 13 years to the Southern Loom Reed. His work ethic was unmatched, and his contribution to these organizations left a lasting impact.
Gordon was a man of service, having served in the US Army Reserves for 8 years. His love for his country was evident in his commitment to service, and he took great pride in his time serving. His dedication to service did not stop there. He was an active member of his community, participating in various clubs and associations. These included the Quarterback Club, Lions Club, Toast Masters Club, Boys and Girls Ranch in Tallapoosa County, Alex City Jaycees, and Russell Owls Club.
In his leisure time, Gordon was an avid Quail and Dove hunter, even serving as a Quail consultant for Covey Rise Magazine. He also enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The Everyday Group at Willow Point. However, what he cherished most was spending time with his beloved family. He had a great love for people and made friends easily. His generosity and friendliness were infectious, and his sense of humor brightened every room he entered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara B. Forbus; his children, Angela F. Tsuruda (Curtis), Thomas L. Forbus (Sabrina), and Judith A. Forbus; his grandchildren, Eleanor Tsuruda-Hines (Nathaniel), Stephanie Elizabeth Forbus, and Lynley Marie Forbus; and his great-granddaughter, Dorothy L. Hines. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia A. Bice, Carmen I. Blake, Margaret Holman, George E. Forbus (Anita), and Rex A. Forbus (Gerri), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In the timeless words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Gordon Forbus lived by these words, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who knew him. His friendly nature, generous spirit, and warm humor will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
Gordon's life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and love. He was a beacon of light in his community, a loving family man, and a steadfast friend. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
