Funeral Service for Mrs. Gloria Jean Abbett, 77, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Albert Pike will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Gloria Jean Abbett, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on February 5, 1947, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, Gloria lived a life marked by devotion to family, a passion for communication, and a zest for life that touched everyone she met.
Gloria, known affectionately to all as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, left us while in Alexander City, Alabama, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Her journey on earth may have ended, but the legacy of her laughter and kindness remains a guiding light for all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Gloria was the heart of her family. She is survived by her children, Jeff Abbett, Tracy (Scott) Alligood, Johnny (Anita) Abbett, and Jeromy Travis (Amber Barrett) Abbett. Her grandchildren, Jordan (Pacelea) Abbett, Amber (Tyler Hee) Halsey, Tasha (Gary McLeod) Reaves, Eddie Halsey, Eden Abbett, Stephnie Abbett, Laura Jean (Nathan Mcelyea) Abbett, Brianna Abbett, Alyssa Abbett, Jimmy (Tabitha) Kent, Jonathan Kent, Rachel (Austin) Veal, and David (Rachel) Hutchens, will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted. Gloria was also blessed with twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren who will continue to feel her love for generations to come. She was preceded in death by her father, Hiram Edward Reed; mother, Sara Nell Reed; and grandson, Andrew Abbett.
Gloria's professional life was as rich and fulfilling as her personal life. For over 30 years, she served as a Communication Officer, dedicating her career to serving communities in Randolph County, Tallapoosa County, Talladega County, and Alexander City. Her work was more than a job; it was a manifestation of her commitment to helping others and ensuring the safety of her community.
Her interests and hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant personality. Gloria loved going fishing, where she found peace and tranquility in the gentle lapping of the waves. She enjoyed traveling with her family, creating unforgettable memories in new places and embracing the adventures that came with each journey. A huge fan of Elvis, Gloria's collection of Elvis and unicorn memorabilia was a testament to her playful spirit and fondness for the things that brought her joy.
Above all, Gloria loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with an unconditional and enduring love. Her ability to make each one feel special and cherished will be a treasure they'll carry with them forever.
