Mrs. Gertrude Phillips' Obituary
Graveside Service for Mrs. Gertrude Phillips, 97, of Alexander City, will be Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 4:00 pm at the Hillview Memorial Park. Rev. Will Baker will officiate.
Mrs. Phillips passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on July 25, 1924, to Richard Sim Reed and Avie Mae Sprayberry Reed. She was a member of First Baptist Church Alexander City for 70 years. She served as the first Church Librarian there. She worked at Avondale Mills, where she met her husband, Dan, at Bellsouth as a telephone operator, and at Russell Corp Number 1 and Number 9 Mills as a trimmer and inspector. Mrs. Gert was an excellent cook and was well known for her chocolate pound cakes and spaghetti. In her later years she enjoyed reading and coloring.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane P. Davis (Jerry) of Dadeville; son, Terry Phillips (Sandra) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Richard Phillips (Jennifer), Janet D. Billock (Russell), Pam D. Alexander (Aaron), Catherine Phillips-Haskins (Tom), Reed Phillips (Kayla); six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dawn Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Daniel Jackson Phillips Jr.; and son, Timothy Lee Phillips.
The family requests no flowers and memorial contributions may be made to Tallapoosa County Caring Refuge 2036 Cherokee Road Alexander City, AL 35010.
