Born on September 12, 1937, in the heart of Alabama, Gerald was a man whose roots ran deep in the southern soil that he cherished throughout his life. His journey began as a son to Gordan Clarence "Sport" Vickers and Mary Lena Vickers, and he grew up alongside siblings who would become his lifelong friends and confidants. While his early years saw the loss of his beloved parents and sisters, Joyce Hughes and June Stark, as well as his beloved wife, Carrie Lee Cheatham Vickers and cherished son by marriage, Calvin Marty Cheatham, Gerald's resilient spirit never wavered. His brothers, James Vickers (Diane) and Cohen Vickers (Judy), remained integral parts of his life, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their uncle's loving nature.

His grandchildren, Michael Andrew Kelly (Brittney), Christopher Cody Cheatham (Lauren), Mischon Chastain (Thomas), Amber Kelly Turner (Brandon), Alana Arnberg (Daniel) and Danielle Yates (Sam Cooper), along with his great-grandchildren, Blake Kelly, Harper Grace Kelly, Levi Turner, Adeline Chastain, Adalynn Turner, Calvin Cheatham, and Henry Cheatham, brought immense joy to his life. Gerald's eyes would sparkle with pride and happiness whenever they entered the room, a testament to the deep bond they shared.
A loyal employee of the Russell Corporation for over four decades, Gerald served as a Supervisor at the Number 6 Mill, where his hard work and leadership were respected and valued. His commitment to excellence and his friendly demeanor made him a well-regarded figure both within his workplace and in the wider community.
Outside of work, Gerald was an avid Alabama fan, his passion for the team rivaled only by his love for fishing, golfing, and traveling. He was a man of simple pleasures, enjoying meals out, engaging in long conversations on the phone, and sharing laughter with those around him. His playful nature and knack for picking on others endeared him to many, creating countless cherished memories.
