Mr. Gerald Clay Neighbors' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Gerald Clay Neighbors, 82, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. David Sherrell, Rev. Mike Jackson, and Rev. Sunny Champion will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Neighbors passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his residence. He was born on June 17, 1935 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Evan Clay Neighbors and Linnie Cordelia Johnston Neighbors. He was an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church and loved gospel music. He was an avid Auburn fan, was an Auburn graduate, Class of 1957 and supported Auburn Football for 60 years. He worked for Russell Corp for nearly 40 years and retired in 1996 as an Accountant in the Cost Accounting Department. After retirement, he volunteered at the Alexander City Recycling center and enjoyed cattle farming with his brother. Mr. Neighbors was an expert on the history of the Fishpond Community. His pride and joy was his granddaughters, Malena and Kayleigh.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelli Lynn Valdez of Alexander City; son, Kevin Clay Neighbors of Huntsville; grandchildren, Malena Valdez and Kayleigh Simpson, both of Alexander City; sister, Erline Saxon of Alexander City; caregiver, Misty Caldwell of Alexander City; special friend, Christy Wesley (Brad) of Alexander City; six nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilka Evans Neighbors; parents; sister, Vema Veazey; and brother, Beryl Neighbors.
