George Ellis Vernon's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. George Ellis Vernon, 79, of Hissop, will be Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at his home, 7337 Coosa County Rd. 40, Kellyton, AL 35089. Rev. Richard Horton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hissop-Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at his home.
Mr. Vernon passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 at his residence. He was born on August 21, 1944 in Alexander City. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. George retired as a truck driver. He was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad, great- granddad, and great-great-granddad. George loved his God and he loved his family. He enjoyed working on cars and watching Nascar as well. George worked with his hands all the time.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Hammonds Vernon of Hissop; daughters, Kimberly Vernon Abrams (Raymond) of Rockford and Susan Vernon Thaggard (Zack) of Dadeville; sons, Timothy John Vernon of Hissop, Mark Anthony Vernon (Tracy) of Hissop, and George Matthew Vernon (Julie) of Kellyton; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sara June Bailey Vernon; grandparents, Lois and Lillian Vernon and Emmett and Molly Bailey; great-grandchild, Kimberly Ashlynn Sims; and sister, Diane Vernon Sparks.
