George Hurell Adair Sr.'s Obituary
Graveside Service for Mr. George Hurell Adair, Sr., 89, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Hillivew Memorial Park. Father Rob Iler will officiate.
Mr. Adair passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City. He was born on November 15, 1934 in Alexander City to Robert Hurell Adair and Myrtle Ezell Smith Adair.
Mr. George Hurell Adair, Sr., a cherished patriarch, and a lifelong resident of Alexander City, AL, was known affectionately to all as George, he was a man whose laughter and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
George's life was a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication. His career spanned over 50 years at Russell Corp., where he was a respected employee. His commitment to his work was matched only by his love for farming, cattle, gardening, and coaching his kids in local sports - passions that he pursued with the same vigor and enthusiasm that characterized his professional life.
The joy of George's life was his family, whom he loved unreservedly. He is survived by a loving and devoted family: his sons, Randy Hurell (Barbara) Adair and George Hurell (Amanda) Adair, Jr.; his daughters, Rhonda Adair (Patrick) Lee and Regina Adair; his grandchildren, Shelby (Justin) DiPietro, Reed (Erin) Adair, Kyle Devanney, Katie Devanney, and Caroline Adair; and great-grandchildren, Carter Adair and Avery Adair. George was a funny, spirited, and handy man who could always be counted on for a laugh or to fix anything that needed repair.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelby Jean Adair, who was his partner in love and life; his father, Robert Hurell Adair; his mother, Myrtle Ezell Adair; his brothers, Robert Lewis Adair and Earl Dee Adair; and his sister, Thelma Jean Sellers. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family.
Those who knew George will fondly remember his stories, his infectious laugh, and his ability to bring a smile to anyone's face. He was a man who truly lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with gusto and gratitude. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the importance of family - values that he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and which will continue to live on through them.
As we say goodbye to George, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man loved by many, and the happy memories we all shared. His presence will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on the lives of his family and friends will never be forgotten. George Hurell Adair, Sr. was not just a man of the earth; he was a man of the people, and his spirit will forever remain in the fields he tended, the cattle he raised, and most importantly, in the hearts of those who loved him.
