Gary Ross Robertson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama, at the age of 76. Born on November 22, 1947, in Dothan, Alabama, Gary's life was one marked by love, laughter, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Melody Davidson Robertson, his loving children, Eugene Ross Robertson and Angi Robertson (Terry) Queen, and his grandchildren, Drew Queen and Kimber Queen. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Tommy Bowen, David Bowen, David (Rachel) Davidson and Ray (Shelley) Davison. He will also be fondly remembered by his niece, Shelley McNeal and a host of other nieces and nephews. Gary's legacy of kindness and warmth lives on through them. His passing was preceded by his parents, Eugene Levi and Dorothy Robertson, his brother Greg Robertson, his sister, Deedie Robertson McNeal, and his brother, Mark Robertson.
For many years, Gary was the proud owner and operator of the Piggly Wiggly in Alexander City, where his hard work and dedication to his customers and employees set a standard in the community. Gary was not only a respected businessman but also an active member of the Alexander City BASS Club, where his passion for angling could be shared with like-minded enthusiasts. His skill as an angler was known throughout the southeast, as he competed in numerous fishing tournaments, always with the grace of a sportsman and the heart of a champion.
Gary's competitive streak shone brightly on the golf course as well. An avid golfer, he played with a determination to win and enjoyed every moment of camaraderie with his fellow golfers. His sense of humor was as sharp as his golf game, and he was always on the lookout for a good-natured prank to play on his friends. An avid supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Gary's enthusiasm for his team was infectious, and game days were always a special occasion in the Robertson household.
Beyond his sporting endeavors, Gary's love for animals was profound. His tender heart extended to all creatures, particularly rescue animals. He took great joy in caring for his chickens, for whom he lovingly had constructed a lavish coop-dominium, ensuring they lived in comfort and style.
Those who knew Gary will remember him as a man of intelligence, with a warm and loving nature that made him a joy to be around. His generous spirit was evident in all he did, though he never sought recognition for his kindness. Instead, he preferred to make his impact quietly, leaving a trail of gratitude and affection in his wake.
As we bid farewell to Gary, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with joy, generosity, and love. His memory will continue to inspire us, guide us, and remind us of the beauty in a life spent in service to others, the thrill of a game well-played, and the importance of laughter and love. Gary Ross Robertson will be deeply missed, but his legacy will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Lake Martin Animal Advocacy, marked for Black Dog Rescue/GR, 9398 Alabama State Highway 259, Alexander City, Alabama 35010.
