Fred Casten, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loving family. His life was a testament to his unwavering faith, service to his country, and dedication to his loved ones. Fred's infectious humor, optimistic outlook, and wise counsel left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Born to Francis Frederick Casten and Theresa Irene Casten, Fred grew up with a close-knit family that would later include his cherished siblings, Carl, Earl, and June, and his dear sister Dorothy Greene, who preceded him in death. Fred's formative years were spent in Dade City, Florida, where he graduated from high school before attending Pasco-Hernando Community College. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to excellence set the stage for his future endeavors.
Fred honorably served in the United States Army for seven years, after which he continued his service in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. His passion for mechanics was not only evident in his military career but also in the way he taught others the intricate skills of repairing jet engines. Following his military service, Fred channeled his expertise into entrepreneurship, owning and operating his own lawnmower repair business, where his reputation for quality work and integrity grew.
A devout Christian, Fred was ordained as a deacon, living his faith through action and service. He found joy in expressing his creativity through woodworking, crafting beautiful lamps that were as much a reflection of his skill as they were of his heart. Fred also had a love for roller skating and poetry, often sharing the latter with his family and friends, who cherished his written words.
Fred's life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Caulie I. Casten of Alexander City, AL; his daughter, Marnell (Jon) Blanchard; his son, Wayne (Kim) Casten; his daughter, Lisa (David) Murray; his grandchildren, Kylie, Toby, Lesley, Cole, and Peyton; and his great-grandchildren, Tegan, Josie, Addy, Emmett, Indy, and Bowen. His brothers, Carl and Earl; his sister, June Bledsoe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including Terry Cristy, Tina Boyt, Tammy Rich, Scotty (Patricia) Greene, Cindy Cox, Lynn Zowaksi, Robert (Gigi) Dollar, James (Peggy) Daughtery, Elizabeth Douglas, and their families, also survive him. Fred's life was also touched by his dedicated caregivers, Jackie Russell, Chyna Russell, Melinda Johnson, and Serena King, who provided comfort and care in his final days.
Fred's legacy is one of laughter, resilience, and wisdom. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, guiding them through his example of hard work, compassion, and unwavering positivity. Though he will be dearly missed, his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Fred Casten, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, service, and the joy of shared experiences. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told, the lessons learned, and the lives he touched. Rest in peace, Fred, knowing that your legacy endures.
