Mrs. Faye Redding Holliday's Obituary
Faye Redding Holliday, 94, died peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Alexander City, AL., surrounded by loved ones. She was a true “Southern Lady” best known for her use, defense of, and teaching proper grammar - and her peanut brittle.
She was born in Clay County, Georgia, to B.B. (Buster) Redding and Edna Hayes Redding on January 6, 1932. After attending public schools in Ft. Gaines, Georgia, the family moved to the “farm” in rural Clay County where she attended Bluffton School. Following the 11th grade, she attended Andrew College, where she was a basketball star. She later moved from Statesboro (Georgia Teacher’s College) to Jeffersonville, Georgia, where she served as assistant principal and a basketball coach. In Jeffersonville, she met the love of her life, Roger (she was the love of his) and they married on December 26, 1954, and were married for 57 years before his death in 2011.
Later, they moved to Macon, Georgia, where she taught at Stratford Academy for years, and exposed an untold number of students to “The Holliday Booklet” (later published as “The Holliday Basic Grammar Handbook”). She eventually retired from Stratford, which continues to present the Faye Holliday Award to a deserving English student each year.
She and Roger retired to Lake Martin, Alabama, in 1990, to be near their three grandchildren. Faye and Roger later moved to Monroe, GA, in 1999, again following their beloved grandchildren, this time to the Atlanta area. For years, they attended numerous basketball, baseball, and football games following their grandchildren's sports activities. The couple returned to Lake Martin (once again to be near family) in 2010.
She is survived by her only child, Kenneth Roger Holliday (Cindy) of Alexander City, AL, "the three H’s" (grandchildren), Hamilton (Lauren) Holliday of Huntsville, AL, Henry (Shealy) Holliday of Huntsville, AL, and Hayes (Matt) Saul of Birmingham, AL, and her brother, John Redding, of Monroe, Georgia.
She dearly loved being “Gran” to the grandchildren and her ten great grandchildren, as well being “Aunt Faye” to her nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Roger; her parents; and younger brother, Phil (Deloris) Redding of Bluffton, Georgia; and her sister in-law, and best friend, Levon (John).
Her first love was her family, including nieces and nephews on both the Holliday and Redding sides of the family. She was faithful to the church, having taught Adult Sunday School for years in Macon and serving as a Lay Eucharist Minister at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Monroe, GA.
Services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, where she was a member, in Alexander City, AL, at 11:00 am, on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The Rev. Rob St. Germain-Iler will officiate the service. There will be a reception at the Church immediately afterwards.
The family wishes to especially thank the wonderful folks at Chapman’s Healthcare, Enhabit, and her newest friend, Mary Ann, who all adopted her as family, and treated her with the utmost care and respect.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Alexander City.
She lived a full and happy life, and was ever vigilant of English Grammar as evidenced the way she always signed her books, “to those who care and dare to write and to speak correctly and confidently.”
Arrangements are being handled by Radney Funeral Home.
