Ms. Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Queen's Obituary
Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Queen was the third child born to William Fred and Estelle McCrary Queen on September 11, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama. She passed away on September 20, 2025 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was preceded in her death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Betty Sides (Charles deceased), her brothers, Dr. William Queen (Beverly deceased) and Richard Queen (Jan); nephews, Keith Sides, Brad Queen, Rich Queen, Jeff Queen, David Reid; nieces, Katherine Queen, Jackie Yongue, Rebecca Hunter; great nephews Trey Sides, David Sides; great niece Katie Sides, Samantha Queen, Lucy Queen and Alice Queen. Chosen family includes Dr. Siddie May Norman (deceased), Melanie Poole, DeForest Toggle, Kate Lewis, Martie Johnson, Mary Esther Evans and Alice Warren.
Libby formally accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at the age of 12 at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and with each move in her life she affiliated with Baptist churches and in 2020, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alexander City.
She graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alabama College (The University of Montevallo) with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and a Masters of Arts in Speech Pathology from the University of Alabama and a Specialist in Special Education from the University of Alabama. She also studied at George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
With her career in Speech Pathology, she worked in public schools in Columbus, Georgia; Davidson County Schools in Nashville, Tennessee; Rockingham Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia; Anniston City Schools and Alexander City Schools. She retired as Coordinator of Special Education programs in Alexander City. In the summer of 1956, she worked on the staff of Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. During several summer vacations, she helped build churches in various states.
Throughout her life, she was affiliated with various organizations. These organizations include Girl Scouts, Order of The Eastern Star, Quota International, AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma International (Alpha Pi Chapter), BPW, and The American and Alabama Speech and Hearing associations.
It was a honor for her to serve on the Board of Trustees at the University of Montevallo. She held offices in the Alumni Association at University of Montevallo, including President. She also served on the Board of Visitors for the College of Arts and Sciences. She received the Alumni Loyalty award in 1970. She was listed as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America.
Visitation for Libby will be at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City on Thursday, September 25 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. The funeral will be at their Chapel at 3:00 pm. The interment of will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham on Friday, September 26 at 11:00 am.
