Elinor Warr Roberts' Obituary
Funeral Service for Elinor Warr Roberts, 88, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday, July 14, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church. Bro. Billy Coleman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church. A private family burial will follow in the Clanton City Cemetery.
Elinor Warr Roberts died peacefully in her home on July 11, 2023. She began her earthly life in Clanton, Alabama on January 24, 1935 being born to Lloyd Curtis Warr and Elinor Martin Warr. She attended Huntingdon College, where she was elected Miss Loyalty in 1957. She was a longtime Board member and trustee of Huntingdon College, and was the recipient of the Alumni Award in 1994. She went on to earn a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama, and taught English at Central Alabama Community College and Benjamin Russell High School.
Elinor spent her life in service to others. She especially loved her church and teaching the Emmanuel Sunday School class. She was an avid tennis player and was a seven-time Alabama Tennis Association Champion. She was truly loved and lived life to the fullest.
Elinor is survived by her two daughters, Jebb Roberts Blankenship and Alice Roberts Sheffield (Barry); one brother, Dr. Lloyd C. Warr; three granddaughters, Shelley Alice Sheffield, Abigail Blankenship Pflaum (Adam), and Lindsay Marie Sheffield; one grandson, Joseph Brandon Roberts; and one great-granddaughter, Elinor Margaret Pflaum, who is named after her.
She was preceded in her death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Warr; two sons, Joseph Thomas Roberts, Jr. and Edwin Hebson Roberts; and her granddaughter, Laura Alice Sheffield.
The family requests no flowers, but memorials may be sent to Huntingdon College, 1500 E Fairview Ave, Montgomery, AL 36106; Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church, 310 Green Street, Alexander City, AL 35010; or just do a kind deed for someone.
