Mrs. Edna Mae Nelson Thomas' Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Mae Nelson Thomas, 99, of Alexander City, Alabama will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Densmore will officiate. Burial will be held in the Hillview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Thomas was born April 21, 1922 in Alexander City, Alabama. She was the daughter of Claude E. Nelson and Carrie Nelson. She was a dedicated member of The First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class, and Circle of Love. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked at The Fair Store for 25 years before retiring to volunteer at Russell Medical Center, Meal on Wheels and Red Cross.
Mrs. Thomas loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers, traveling, playing bridge, socializing with others and reading her Bible. She will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She dearly loved her granddaughter Tracy and her great grandsons, Karson and Garrett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her birth mother Eunice Adell Scott Nelson, and husband William Garrett Thomas of 60 years, one brother Everett Nelson, two sisters Evalene Hutcherson and Nell Baker.
Survivors include her two children Carolyn Brantley (Faite) Alexander City, and Bill Thomas (Barbara) Hollins, AL; one sibling Garon Nelson (Toni) Hackneyville, AL; one granddaughter Tracy Hannah (Jon); 2 great grandsons, Karson and Garrett Hannah Birmingham, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The First United Methodist Church at 310 Green Street, Alexander City, AL 35010 or to Lake Martin United Way at PO Box 876, Alexander City, AL 35011.
