Mrs. Edith White Bishop's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Edith White Bishop, 81, of New Site, Alabama, will be Friday, August 18, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Pastor Eric Hendrix will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Edith White Bishop, fondly known as Edith, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, in New Site, Alabama. Born on January 9, 1942, in Lanett, Alabama, she lived a life characterized by wisdom, creativity, and a knack for being incredibly handy.
Edith was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wilfred Junior Bishop, and their children, Rita Prophitt Traylor (Greg), Roger Bishop (Lisa), Rhonda Hendrix, Richard Bishop (Sandy), and Rodney Bishop (Misty). She was the cherished grandmother to Josh Bishop (Jana), Jason Bishop, Steven Hendrix, Eric Hendrix (Taylor), Jessica Cassiano (Eric), Justin Bishop (Dana), Jake Bishop (Eliza), Hunter Goodwin (Shea), Kelli Prophitt (Chase), Nathan Prophitt (Jessica), Cody Bishop (Jody), and Haden Monk (Dylan). Edith was also blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Wood and Phyllis White.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Tip and Julia Belle White; brothers, George White, Jimmy White, Bobby White, and Buzzy White; sisters, Nadine Tapley, Willow Dean Bishop, and Peggy McDonald; and her great-granddaughter, Denah Bishop.
Edith spent her professional life as a sewing machine operator, a role that perfectly aligned with her passion for crafts. Her love for her craft was evident in her work, and she was known for her remarkable skill and attention to detail. Her interests extended beyond her work, embracing a wide range of hobbies that included quilting, sewing, crocheting, and crafting. She found immense joy in being outside, tending to her flowers and bushes, and she often said that her garden was her little slice of heaven on earth.
Edith's resourcefulness was legendary among those who knew her well. She was someone who didn't believe in wastage and could find a use for just about anything. She was a doting grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Edith's wisdom was a guiding light for her family and friends. She was the person everyone turned to for advice, and she always had the right words to comfort and guide. Her creative spirit was infectious, inspiring those around her to explore their own creativity. She was also incredibly handy, always ready to lend a hand or fix a problem. Her ability to turn her hand to anything was a testament to her resourcefulness and her willingness to help others.
Edith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to her character: wise, creative, and handy. She leaves behind a legacy of love and creativity that will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
