Edgar William O'Neal's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Edgar William O'Neal, 86, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the Alexander City Independent Methodist Church. Rev. Ronnie Palmer and Rev. Wayne Cowhick will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park with honors provided by the Alexander City Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Alexander City Independent Methodist Church.
Edgar William O'Neal, known affectionately as Edgar "AKA - Pudink" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama, at the age of 86. Born on November 20, 1937, in Dadeville, Alabama, Edgar lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and dedication to his community.
Edgar's legacy is carried on by his loving daughters, Rhonda O'Neal Alford and her husband Jeffrey, Teresa O'Neal Smith and her husband Billy; his cherished grandchildren, Katelyn Smith De Splinter with Andrew, and Neal Alford with Tori; and his adored great-grandchildren, Ellie Jane Alford, Jack Franklin Alford, Peter Andrew De Splinter, and Charlotte Rose De Splinter. He also leaves behind his sister, Jean O'Neal Mangrum, who along with the rest of the family, will miss him dearly. Edgar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Dalphine O'Neal, his siblings Buddy, Harold, Frances, Betty, Larry, Geneva, and Baby Sister O'Neal, and his parents, Paul Harvey and Ada Belle O'Neal.
A proud graduate of Dadeville High School, Edgar's strong sense of duty led him to serve in the U.S. Army for two years, followed by 12 years in the Reserve. His commitment to his country was matched only by his commitment to his community, as evidenced by his longstanding membership in the Alexander City Veterans Honor Guard. Edgar's work ethic was unparalleled, and he dedicated 38 years to the Russell Corporation, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Edgar was a man of faith and a charter member of the Alexander City Independent Methodist Church. His love for the church was profound, and it was there that he instilled in his family the values of love and respect. As a father and grandfather, Edgar was a wonderful provider, known for his huge and generous heart. His family always knew they were loved and cherished, and they will carry forward the lessons he taught them.
In his spare time, Edgar was an avid outdoorsman. He found joy in cutting grass and fishing, and he was a fervent supporter of Alabama football. His passion for collecting coins was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his appreciation for history and the stories each piece could tell.
Edgar's presence was marked by his loving nature, his passionate spirit, and his courageous heart. He faced life's challenges with a resilience that inspired everyone around him. Friends, family, and acquaintances knew Edgar as a man who lived his values and who would go out of his way to lend a helping hand.
To say that Edgar will be missed is an understatement. He touched many lives, and the memories he created will be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Edgar's story is one of a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the quiet strength that defined him.
As we bid farewell to Edgar William O'Neal, we are reminded of the beauty of a life that, while no longer with us in body, continues to influence and guide us in spirit.
