A Memorial Service for Mr. David Edward "Ed" Funderburk, 72, of Alexander City, will be Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church. Bro. Billy Coleman and Bro. Matthew Colburn will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Ed passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 5, 1951 in Alexander City to Emmett Euther Funderburk and Wallace Maude Black Funderburk. Ed was an active member of Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church where he was devoted to the Legacy Group and his Sunday School class. He was also a dedicated member of the "Tumbleweeds", a group of friends that would gather every Thursday to have dinner with each other. Ed was a very hardworking man with a big heart. His kindness extended to helping others any way that he could whether it was building something or fixing something. When he was able to relax, Ed enjoyed sitting on the back deck at the lake and playing with his dog and cat. He enjoyed the simple things in life, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ed was a good provider to his children and Yvonne. He enjoyed taking Yvonne on vacations and trips. They would often go on boat rides around the lake to enjoy the sunset together. They were "two peas in a pod." Ed will always be remembered as "Papa" to his grandchildren, "Bubba" to his brother, and "Puddin" to his friends. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Yvonne Funderburk; daughters, Rachel (Jason) Latham, Emily (Bill) Myers; grandchildren, Taylor Latham, Samantha Latham, Samuel Myers; nephew, Eric (Jennie) Funderburk; niece, Holly (Jim) Baker; great-niece, Edie Baker; great-nephews, Barrett Funderburk, Reid Funderburk, Trevor Funderburk; and brother, Emmett (Marion) Funderburk;
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Wallace Funderburk.
