Dorothy Ann Rape, affectionately known by all as Dorothy, departed from this life on August 11, 2024, at the age of 72, in Auburn, Alabama. Born on December 5, 1951, in Dadeville, Alabama, Dorothy spent her lifetime nurturing a family that adored her and a community that respected her.
Dorothy's life was marked by her commitment to her family and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life. She was the beloved wife of Albert "Petie" Rape of Ashland, AL, and the cherished mother of daughters Lona D. (Stephen) Richerson and Kristi Ann (Tim) Graeser, both of Ashland, AL. She was the proud grandmother to Charles Matthew (Dana) Cotney, Jon Dylan (Nicole) Cotney, Ashley Nicole (Brandon Luster) Graeser, Stephanie Lee (Cody) Nelson, and Brandon Lane (Starr Key) Graeser. Her legacy continued with her great-grandchildren Trinity Cotney, Jerrod Laine Shirey, Krimsley Marie Davis, Morgan Marie Cotney, Kiley Rayne Cotney, Jon Luke Nelson, and Albert Liam Kage Cotney, who will forever cherish her memory.
Dorothy's life was one of service and devotion, as she embraced her role as a homemaker with passion and grace. Her hands were rarely still as she sewed Easter dresses for her granddaughters, conjured up the best biscuits and yeast rolls, and expressed her love through the meals she lovingly prepared for her family. Dorothy's strength of character was evident to all who knew her; she was strong-willed and lived life on her own terms.
Her sense of humor, spirited nature, and loving heart made every moment with her memorable. Dorothy's laughter was infectious, and her presence brought light and joy into the lives of those she touched. Her love for travel often took her to the Tennessee Smokey Mountains, a place she held dear in her heart. Dorothy was also known for her love of shopping, a pastime she indulged in until her wallet told her it was time to go home.
Dorothy's flair for fashion was undeniable, especially her collection of hats which became a signature part of her style. To be seen and admired was a pleasure for her, and she carried herself with a grace that was matched by her sense of humor and the love she shared so freely.
The family she leaves behind is a testament to the life she lived. She is survived by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law Joe Tomlin. Dorothy's presence will be profoundly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her father, Hezzie Eugene "JA" Goodson, her mother, Laura Morgan Goodson, her brothers, Terry and Donnie Goodson, and her sister, Janice Tomlin.
Dorothy Ann Rape's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication. As her family and friends remember her, they will find comfort in the knowledge that her spirit and legacy will continue through the lives of those she loved and the many memories they shared. Her life was a beautiful journey that touched many hearts, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 325 Mt. Zion Church Road, Ashland, AL 36251.
