Mrs. Doris Louise Moncrief's Obituary
Funeral service for Mrs. Doris Louise Moncrief, 87, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Dye and Bro. Tony Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. \r\n\r\nMrs. Moncrief passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on September 2, 1926 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Amanuel Britton Funderburk and Mattie Maudine Willis Funderburk. She was an active member of Pearson Chapel Church.\r\n\r\nMrs. Moncrief was married to Aubrey Allen Moncrief for 61 years. He was the love of her life. She had a love and special talent for quilting. Everyone always admired her beautiful hand stitched quilts. In her earlier years, she enjoyed going to the river to fish and cook. Mrs. Moncrief enjoyed going to the cabin on Lake Martin and fishing for crappie in the Spring. She was a good cook at preparing wild game. She loved her family and really enjoyed family gatherings. Mrs. Moncrief loved to eat and always got her fill of sweets. She was fondly known as “Mee Maw” to her grandchildren and “Sis” to her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was known for her amazing memory and was the “go to” person for any information on family history. She loved the Lord and always looked forward to gospel singings and the fellowship afterwards. Her church and church family meant so much to her. Mrs. Moncrief loved going on trips and was an avid shopper. Her favorite place to eat was CiCi’s Pizza. Mrs. Moncrief worked as a seamstress at Russell Corporation for a total of 35 years before retiring due to health issues.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her son, Audie Moncrief (Lisa), of Alexander City; daughter-in-law, Linda Moncrief Railey (Wayne) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Larry Moncrief, Kelly Stroud (Gary), Cole Moncrief (Taylor) and Frank Moody (Heather); great-grandchildren, Hillary Moncrief, Landon Moncrief, Haley Stroud (Shane Burns), Colton Stroud, Greyson Moncrief and Hank Moody; sister, Sara Bradford Sprayberry of Alexander City; brother, Willis B. "Jimmy" Funderburk of Alexander City and several nieces, nephews and cousins.\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Allen Moncrief; son, Myron Allen Moncrief; her parents; sisters, Mauette Yarbrough and Mabrie Funderburk Willis; brothers, Ralph Funderburk, William Earl Funderburk, Dewey Britton Funderburk, Dennis Funderburk, Gerald Funderburk, Charlie Funderburk and Kyle Curtis Funderburk.\r\n\r\nThe family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Pearson Chapel Church, c/o Natalie Jennings, 388 Bradford Road, Alexander City, Al. 35010.\r\n
