Donald Sanford Petrey III's Obituary
Donald Sanford Petrey, III, the son of Alexander City natives Donald Sanford Petrey, Jr. (New York, NY) and Frances Forbus Petrey (Alexander City, AL) passed away in January 2025 in New York City. Donald was born June 3, 1964, in New Haven CT, but was a resident of New York State for most of his life.
Donald received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2001. After receiving his PhD, Donald contributed to research and graduate education on development of computational approaches for the prediction of protein – protein interactions in the Honig Lab as an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Campus in New York City.
Donald is survived by his parents; sister Charlotte Petrey Plasse (Marcq-en-Baroeul, France); his beloved niece and nephew, Lucie and Noah Plasse (Paris, France); and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Donald will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues across the country for his kindness, humor, and generosity.
A private memorial service will be held on February 9 in Alexander City. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lake Martin Humane Society, PO Box 634, Alexander City, AL 35011, or the charity of your choice.
