Mr. Donald Vickrey Jenkins' Obituary
Donald Vickrey Jenkins, a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky and a resident of Alexander City, Alabama died February 11, 2014 in Alexander City. He was born on June 22, 1938 and was the son of Ila (Ike) Hugh and Opal Vickrey Jenkins and the older brother of Dennis Alan Jenkins and the late Vivian Jenkins Kissel. Mr. Jenkins was a 1956 graduate of Bowling Green High School and received both a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Western Kentucky University. He taught Industrial Arts at Eastern High School in Louisville, Kentucky where he also coached baseball and swimming for ten years, before embarking on a lifelong career in textbook sales until his retirement. Mr. Jenkins was an avid outdoorsman enjoying many hunting and fishing adventures in several states and in Canada. Nothing was more satisfying to Mr. Jenkins than spending time with his family and friends or anticipating the next covey rise with his two Britney Spaniels, Lucy and Maggie.\r\n\r\nDon was married to the late Elaine Holland Jenkins for thirty-one years. He is survived by three children from his first marriage, Alicia (Lisa) Jenkins-Graham, of Bee Spring, Kentucky, Laura (Lori) Jenkins Chapman, of Madison, Tennessee, and Donald (Dee) Hugh Jenkins, of Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was the proud grandfather of three grandsons: the late Matthew “Garrett” Graham, Andrew “Logan” Graham, and Patrick Thomas Jenkins. He leaves behind his younger brother Dennis (Gloria) Jenkins of Brentwood, Tennessee; nephews, Jeff Jenkins of Old Hickory, Tennessee and Marc (Lindsey) Jenkins of Brentwood, Tennessee; nieces, Denise (Jason) Legate of Henderson, Kentucky and Melie (Brice) Vincent of Waco, Texas; and one great-nephew and three great-nieces.\r\n\r\nThe family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and the funeral service will follow at 6:30 pm in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bowling Green, KY.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 371 Jefferson Street, Alexander City, AL 35010; First Christian Church, 1106 State St, Bowling Green, KY 42101; American Cancer Society, 3054-C McGhee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111; Matthew Garrett Graham Memorial Foundation, 14711 Langford Lane, Foley, AL 36535; Children's Harbor, One Our Children’s Highway, Alexander City, AL 35010; or to the charity of one's choice.\r\n
